At White Sands Physical Therapy & Aquatics we have a unique system that is revolutionary for treating back and neck pain. Our facility has a therapeutic pool that is 20’ x 32’ and encompasses depths from 3’ to 6 ½’. The water temperature is maintained at 92°-93° F, which provides a warm & relaxing environment for a variety of exercise formats. We also have a therapy gym where patients receive manual therapy. Patients are taught how to do rehabilitative exercises and practice these exercises. The equipment we use is designed to improve posture while at the same time increase strength and endurance. Modalities to decrease pain and facilitate healing are also done in this gym when needed.
Low Back Myths or Truths
Ice is best in the first 24 to 48 hours after low back injury. Truth. This is because ice reduces inflammation. Inflammation causes swelling that will increase pressure on nerves and other injured tissues. Warmth of a heating pad may feel good by relaxing tight muscles and covering up the pain, but the heat actually increases inflammation. After 48 hours, you can switch to heat or use heat and ice alternating. Heat or ice should be removed after 15 to 20 minutes.
